DIDACTICS

Understanding and researching
the Textile Museum of Chieri

_____________________

OBJECTIVES

  • Make young people aware of the presence of the Textile Museum within the City of Chieri, one of the few museums of its kind in Italy, and indeed, in the world.
  • Stimulate research into the collective memory of local history and customs, and encourage research into different artistic forms.

INTENDED USERS

  • School students, ranging in age from the Fifth Elementary to High School.

Guided Tour

  • These are organized by guides from the 'Carreum Potentia' Association and last about an hour. Reservations for 25 persons or less may be booked by phoning the Textile Foundation. Unfortunately, the Museum is currently situated in temporary quarters which do not, as yet, give visitors sufficient freedom to explore autonomously. Visitors may, however, stop in the various sectors, where different artefacts with their method of use are on exhibit as well as practical demonstrations on working looms. The visit ends with a showing of a film; "The Thread of History."

materials: free documentary and teaching aids to be used in class for further research, exercises, and games using textiles (such as board games).
